Quilting

My dear sister-in-law asked me if I would mind making a baby quilt for one of her good friends. I enjoy baby quilts...not too big of a project and I love using soft, cuddly, fuzzy material for quilt backs. I found material with the right colors, decided on a plan and got to work. The material was a panel made up of blocks that I cut apart and pieced together in the layout I wanted. I then added a brown border, a multi-color piano key border and another strip of brown to complete the frame. I quilted it in a loose loop pattern, added a border of minkee and "pillow-case" put the quilt top and the backing together. I then stitched around both sides of the border to tack the two layers together. I think it turned out nice...and according to my SIL, so did the mom-to-be!

I also made a quilt last month for my other sister-in-law who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I chose pink, gray and cream for the colors and used a thick, furry throw for the backing. I wanted it to be very warm and cozy so she could snuggle under it when the chemo and radiation had her feeling bad. It didn't lay as flat as I would have liked it to due to the throw I used for the back, but I still think it turned out okay...and she loved it.
